According
to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), this year
Turkey's steel scrap imports fell by 29% in January from December last year. It
is down by 11.5% compared to January 2011. Turkish mills have imported 1.5
million MT of scrap in January 2012.
As
per the data, the average price of Turkey's steel scrap imports stood at US$ 433/MT
i.e. up by US$ 2/MT MoM & US$ 12/MT YoY.
In
January, the US was the top exporter of scrap to Turkey with 275,376 MT i.e. down
by 55.7%, while Russia followed the US with its scrap exports to Turkey
amounting to 233,363 MT i.e. up by 27.6%, both compared to December 2011.
In
January, Romania exported 156,135 MT of scrap to Turkey, decreasing 6.3%, while
the UK's scrap exports to Turkey amounted to 154,934 MT i.e. down by 40.4%,
both compared to the previous month.
