Scrap-based furnaces to have an edge with implementation of BIS 

The decision of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to bring in compulsorily certification of steel products from 12th Sep, has made it tough for small and medium steel makers across India.

Industry experts reported to SteelMint that scrap based will have an advantage over sponge based furnaces, as it is easy to maintain desired chemical composition with scrap over sponge iron.

Only handful of manufacturers are certified with BIS, many have applied but yet to get certified.
