Schedule III Coal Block Auction Updates

Day five of Schedule III ended with auction of 11 coal blocks which were bagged by companies through highest bid.

After the successful completion of the first phase (Schedule II), the Government has now begun auctioning of Schedule III with 19 blocks and these are reserved for public & private companies. On 8 Mar’15, the ministry completed day five with successful auction of 11 Coal blocks, which includes 4 reverse (reserved for power) and 6 forward auction (Iron & Steel, Cement & CPP).

Till date, the highest number of mines has been auctioned from Jharkhand. Out of total auctioned coal blocks 3 blocks were received by steel manufacturers, 2 blocks by cement and rest 6 were bagged by power producers.

In Forward auction, Ambuja Cements won Gare-Palma Sector-IV/8 in Chhattisgarh at the highest bid of INR 2,291/MT. Ganeshpur mine, reserved for power sector was won by GMR Chhattisgarh Energy at INR 704/MT,the highest bid amount in reverse auction till date.

Two more coal blocks have been put on auction today, namely, Utkal C (reserved for power) in Odisha and Lohari mine (non-power sector) in Jharkhand. Utkal C is the most important mine in Odisha owing to its large reserve areas.Adani Power Maharashtra, Essar Power Gujarat, GMR Mining & Energy, Jindal India Thermal Power, Jindal Power, KSK Mahanandi Power, LANCO Barbandh Power, Monnet Power, Sesa Sterlite are all in the race for this particular coal block.
