Schedule III Coal Block Auction Begins: Usha Martin Wins Brinda & Sasai Block

Taking auction process to the next phase, the ministry commenced Schedule III coal block auction today.

After the successful completion of the first phase (Schedule II), the Government has now begun auctioning of Schedule III with 19 blocks and these are reserved for the public & private companies. The ministry began Schedule III auction from today, offering three coal blocks namely Brinda & Sasai, Moitra, and Jitpur, all located in Jharkhand.

On the first day of auction,with the highest bid at INR 1,804/MT,Usha Martin bagged Brinda& Sasai block reserved for non-power sector (Iron & Steel, Cement & CPP). The company won among competitors like BALCO, Sesa Sterlite and Easternrange Coal Mining. Previously the mine was allotted to Abhijeet Infrastructure.

Adani Power won Jitpur Coal Block in Jharkhand at INR 302/MT. The block was reserved for power sector and was previously allotted to JSPL. Bidders for Moitra, a non-power sector block, include JSW Steel, and Jayaswal Neco Industries.
