SCCL Targets Achieving 100 MnT Coal Output in Next Five Years

The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) aims to achieve 100 million tonnes (MnT) of coal production in the next five years, as stated by the company Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), Mr. N. Sridhar, on the occasion of SCCL’s 130th foundation day.

Moreover, the CMD also mentioned that the company envisions to expand its mining area by adding 12 more mines towards the end of the aforesaid five-year time period.

Furthermore, the company plans to foray into other unexplored States across the country wherein plans are already said to be underway.

Mr. Sridhar also threw light on the company’s financial performance by forecasting that the company’s profit for the current financial year is expected to range between INR 1400 crores to INR 1500 crores.

The CMD further revealed about SCCL’s plans to expand coal mining in the two eastern Indian states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The company has reportedly obtained permissions in six places from the respective governments.

SCCL will commence full-scale production in a coal block in Odisha in the next two years while it will start operations at another coal block as early as in the next two months.

SCCL has been supplying coal to numerable industries in different States while also running a thermal-based power plant whose capacity is 1200 MW (2 X 600 MW). The company is also putting efforts to establish a 300 MW solar power plant.

Lastly, the CMD expressed thoughtful concerns regarding the safety protocol procedures and accident control measures to be strictly adhered to by the workers at their hazardous mining areas, in order to achieve zero accident rate.

In this context, he remarked, “Steps are being taken to implement Australian technology to enhance safety standards.”

Notably, SCCL has achieved 62.01 MnT of coal production in the previous fiscal (FY 2017-18), as per the company’s website.
