Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has reported an uptick in monthly coal production, as the miner resumed operations at its underground mines after lifting the COVID-19 enforced restrictions.
Production in May’20 increased 8% M-o-M to 3.23 MnT compared with 3 MnT in Apr’20, but was marked 45% lower on the year from 5.87 MnT in May’19.
The lock-down conditions made SCCL register decline in annual coal production in FY20, for the first time in five years, and carried it into the new fiscal. Production in Apr-May’20 decreased 45% Y-o-Y to 6.23 MnT compared with 11.37 MnT noted in the year-ago period.
A more severe impact was seen in the dispatch volume, which reduced by almost half Y-o-Y to 5.59 MnT during Apr-May’20 as against 11.32 MnT in Apr-May’19. Incidentally, monthly dispatch extended its decline during May’20 as it shrunk to 2.55 MnT, down 16% M-o-M.
With the industrial activity restarting slowly, the company has anticipated that it would raise its production from present levels once the demand starts picking up.
