SCCL: Coal Production Up 5% M-o-M in Dec’18

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has reported coal production of 6.04 MnT in Dec’18, up 5% M-o-M from 5.77 MnT in Nov’18. The output was also 6% higher on the year compared with 5.67 MnT in Dec’17.

Driven by the growing coal demand in the country, the company has registered a steady rise in output since Sep’18. Consequently, total output in the first 9-months of FY19 (Apr’18-Dec’18) has now increased 9% Y-o-Y to 45.57 MnT against 42 MnT coal produced in the same period last fiscal.

SCCL’s monthly coal dispatch, on the other hand, was again marked higher than the corresponding output, but had registered slightly fall during Dec’18.

The fall in monthly dispatch could be attributed to the remarkable decline in coal supplies from SCCL’s Adriyala Project area, where dispatch had fallen 78% M-o-M to 4,264 MT, thereby attaining a 7-month low total in Dec’18.

SCCL’s coal dispatch in Dec’18 was recorded at 6.08 MnT against 6.11 MnT in Nov’18, but was still 2% higher on the year from 5.96 MnT in Dec’17.

Despite the monthly fall, the company had registered 5% growth in total dispatch which were marked at 49.11 MnT in the 9-month period (Apr’18-Dec’18) against the corresponding period’s total of 46.69 MnT attained in FY18.

Area-wise Performance in Dec’18:
Out of the total coal produced in Dec’18, 0.81 MnT was procured from Underground mines while the remaining 5.24 MnT coal was procured from the Open Cast projects.
