Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the coal miner operating in Telangana has witnessed a 4% increase in monthly coal production during Sep’19, overturning the decline seen in the past 3 months.
SCCL’s coal production was marked at 4.23 MnT in Sep’19 as against 4.05 MnT in Aug’19. Despite the monthly growth, coal output in Sep’19 noted its largest y-o-y fall for the FY20 as it decreased 17% on the year from 5.11 MnT in Sep’18.
A shortfall was recorded in output from underground mining projects, which had dropped 5% M-o-M to 0.74 MnT in Sep’19, whereas output from Opencast mining projects had increased 7% M-o-M to 3.5 MnT during the month.
Highest coal production was attained at Kothagudem area, where output grew 8% on the month to 0.95 MnT in Sep’19. In fact, out of the 11 mining areas of SCCL, only three of them namely-Bellampali, Bhoopalpalli and Yellandu, had recorded a noticeable drop in coal output during the month.

SCCL’s Coal Dispatch:
SCCL’s coal dispatch also reversed the declining trend seen in the past few months, by rising 4% on the month to 4.35 MnT in Sep’19. However, the coal volume was marked 15% lower on the year from 5.13 MnT in Sep’18.
During the month, SCCL had transported 787 coal rakes with an increase of 2 rakes in absolute term, from the previous month.
Coal supplies to NTPC power plants increased 13% on the month to 0.795 MnT, while supplies for its pit-head plant STPP surged 46% M-o-M to 0.511 MnT in Sep’19.
Over the course of the first 6-months of FY20 (Apr-Sep’19), SCCL coal dispatch have reached 30.51 MnT, down 2% Y-o-Y from 31.05 MnT noted in the year-ago period. Incidentally, the company had also attained similar volumes for coal production in the said time-frame.
