SCCL Coal Production

SCCL Coal Production Down 49% M-o-M in Apr’20

Singareni Colliries Company Ltd (SCCL) has reported a hefty decline in monthly production, as it suffered challenges in coal evacuation due to COVID-19.

The miner had registered coal production of 3 MnT in Apr’20, which was 49% lower on the month from 5.92 MnT in Mar’20. Besides, the output was also down 45% Y-o-Y from 5.5 MnT noted in Apr’19.

Incidentally, it was the first time that monthly production had fallen below the 4 MnT mark since FY16 (the period from which CoalMint has started compiling SCCL’s coal data).

SCCL had faced hardships due to lock-down norms during the period, wherein mining was suspended at its 22 undergound projects. Consequently, the company was solely dependent on its opencast projects to continue operations.

Dull market conditions affected SCCL’s coal dispatch as well, which had only noted a slight gain over the production volume. Coal supplies by the company had decreased 40% M-o-M to 3.04 MnT in Apr’20.
