Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), the coal miner operating in Telangana, has reported a 10% fall in monthly coal production during Jul’19, primarily due to the onslaught of monsoon rains. SCCL’s coal production was recorded at 5.15 MnT in Jul’19 against 5.71 MnT in Jun’19.
Coal production from underground mines had picked-up during the month, rising 13% M-o-M to 0.77 MnT in Jul’19. However, output from opencast mines fell to its lowest total for FY20, marked at 4.37 MnT during the month.
The company continued the steady rise in coal production y-o-y, wherein output in Jul’19 grew 16% on the year from 4.44 MnT recorded in Jul’18. Consequently, SCCL’s total coal production of 22.23 MnT attained during the first 4 months of FY20 (Apr-Jul’19), yielded a hefty increase of 17% Y-o-Y from 19 MnT recorded in the corresponding period of FY19.
SCCL Coal Dispatch:
Coal supplies from SCCL were also hampered during the month, which had dropped 7% M-o-M to 5.13 MnT in Jul’19. Meanwhile, dispatches had attained its highest y-o-y growth for FY20, rising 13% from 4.54 MnT recorded in the year-ago month.
On the back of higher rake loading entitled for coal transportation this year, the company has managed to post 3% increase in overall coal dispatch during the first 4 months of FY20. Total coal dispatch was recorded at 21.97 MnT during Apr-Jul’19 compared with 21.42 MnT in Apr-Jul’18 period.
Notably, SCCL has recorded rake loading in excess of 1000 during each of the first 4 months of FY20, however, its average count in Jul’19 had fell 8% M-o-M to 33.03/day against 36.03/day in Jun’19.
Coal supply to Power Plants: SCCL’s dispatch to NTPC power plants was marked 20% higher on the month at 1.019 MnT in Jul’19. Coal supplies to its pit head plant-STPP, had fell 13% M-o-M to 0.473 MnT during the month.
