SC to Give Final Disposal on JSPL-Sarda Mines’ Case on 23 Nov

Apex Court has asked for some more documents to be presented in the recent hearing held regarding JSPL’s case of lifting its iron ore stocks lying at Sarda mines.

A company official in conversation with SteelMint shared that “Another hearing was held in the Supreme Court regarding the SLP (Special Leave Petition) filed by the Odisha government against Odisha HC order of allowing JSPL to lift its iron ore stock from Sarda Mines. The case was heard by a new bench and they have asked for certain documents. On 23 Nov’16 final disposal of the case is scheduled to take place”.

JSPL- Sarda mines case history at a glance:

  1. Owing to lack of necessary clearances, Sarda mines was closed on Apr’14 8 Apr’16 – Odisha High Court ordered JSPL to lift its iron ore stocks lying at Sarda mines
  2. 13 Jul’16 – Odisha High Court directed the state government to allow JSPL to fast track the procedures and allow the steel maker to lift iron ore stock lying at Sarda mines within 4 weeks
  3. In mid Jul’16, Odisha government was making plans to file SLP against Odisha HC order
  4. Towards the beginning of Aug’16, it was reported that Odisha government had already filed SLP against state HC order on lifting stocks from Sarda Mines
  5. Towards the end of Aug’16, apex court did not grant any stay order on the SLP filed by Odisha government

 

Sarda Mines iron ore inventory amounts to more than 10-11 MnT. The steel maker is presently sourcing iron ore from its currently operational Tensa mines and for the remaining amount of iron ore it is dependent on Odisha’s merchant miners.
