In a significant verdict, the Odisha High Court today has allowed Sarda Mines Private Ltd (SMPL) to resume production and dispatches of iron ore from its Thakurani B block in Odisha. On 28 May’21, the Joint Directorate of Mines, Keonjhar, Odisha had stopped iron ore dispatches from the mine for exceeding the pro rata production limit stipulated in the EC granted in 2004. Notably, the miner’s lease is due to expire on 13 Aug. Sarda Mines recorded iron ore production of 6.15 mn t in FY’21.
