State owned Steel Authority of India LImited (SAIL) has been continuously reducing its semis share of saleable steel production since last 8 quarters.
In first quarter of FY’17, the semis share of saleable steel production & sales was around 28% which stood at close to 17.4% in the fourth quarter of FY’18 as per the performance highlights of the company.
SAIL has recently reported that saleable steel output was around 14.07 MnT in last fiscal year 2017-18 and the company is targeting to achieve close to 18.0 MnT in the current fiscal year.
To take more update on the reduction of semis production and sales, one of the SAIL officer in Bhilai mentioned that they are selling very lesser quantity of semis in the market as the company is using the same for new rolling mills.
He also added that, they are also planning to reduce further semis sales in the current fiscal year too.
The new rolling mills which was added in SAIL BSP Units during last two fiscal year FY’17 and FY’18 was Universal Rail Mill of 1.2 MnT and Bar and Rod Mill of 0.9 MnT.
