Leading Russian steel-maker NLMK is partnering with Voestalpine and Primetals Technologies, among others, to develop a technology to process zinc-containing ferrous waste. The aim is to separate zinc from such waste and recycle huge tonnages of iron back into the production cycle. This way, it is possible to replace precious virgin iron ore with secondary sources. With huge iron ore deposits in Russia’s Stoilensky, NLMK is committed to recreating value from waste as part of its broader climate goals.
