Russian Coal Import Up By 13% in Sep’16

Russian coal imports registered 13% growth in its monthly coal shipments during Sep’16. While yearly Imports noted a downfall by 14% in the month.

Russia received about 1.7 MnT coal from different destinations in Sep’16. The country’s imports has increased by 13% on monthly basis. While, yearly imports drop by 14% which was at 2 MnT in Sep’15. As per Russian customs data.

Out of the total imported quantity, more than 70% Bituminous coal received by the country every month and rest includes Coking, Anthracite, Coke and other grades.

In first nine months (Jan’16-Sep’16) of 2016, country’s import has noted a fall of 15% to 14.4 MnT which was at 16.95 MnT in 2015 (Jan’15-Sep’15).

Major Exporters to Russia
Countries like Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, China and Poland are the major countries, shipped coal to Russia every month. Whilst, in the month of Sep’16 they were exported mainly to the country.

Kazakhstan, largest exporter to Russia which caters about more than 90% of total Russian coal imports shipped about 1.6 MnT coal in Sep’16; up by 18% compared to last month. While, yearly import drop by 10%, which was 1.8 MnT in Sep’15.

Ukraine, the second-largest coal exporter during the month, shipped about 0.09 MnT coal in Sep’16, with a fall of 25%, compared to 0.12 MnT in Aug’16. Also noted a downfall of 48% Y-o-Y, which was 0.17 MnT in Sep’15.

Azerbaijan, the third-largest exporter, shipped about 0.01 MnT coal during the month, recorded a downfall of 39% M-o-M in Sep’16. While recorded a significant growth of more than 100% Y-o-Y.
