Russia: Steelmakers Appeal to Remove Graphite Electrode Anti-Dumping Duty

Demand for Graphite electrode expected to gain ground as Russia could lift anti-dumping duty on imports of the commodity.

As per the market sources, such a decision was brought into consideration on lack of electrodes and prices of the same skyrocketing due to supply shortage scenario.

Recently, the Federal Anti-monopoly Service of the Russian Federation (FAS) had increased its anti-dumping duty by more than 100% to 32.83% on the largest Indian graphite supplier.

According to data with SteelMint, Graphite Electrode imported by Russia is 10% higher in H1 2017 against H1 2016. China was the largest supplier of graphite electrode to Russia followed by Spain and France, which recorded an increase of 26%, 23%, and 55% Y-o-Y in H1 2017 respectively.

Moreover, it has also been observed that major amount of import is done in the H2 period that is more than 50% of the imports as per the data of 2016.

The decision on lifting of anti-dumping duty is presumably to be made by Jan’18.
