Russia: Paul Wurth to build new 3.7 mn t/year blast furnace for MMK

Russian steel giant MMK Group has signed a contract with global steel plant engineer Paul Wurth, a subsidiary of the SMS Group, for construction of a new blast furnace (BF) with annual production capacity of 3.7 mn t of pig iron. The construction will allow MMK’s three operating furnaces to be decommissioned, which could result in reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1,123 t per year. The project is expected to be completed within three years, as per latest reports.
