Trade statistics released by Customs Committee of Russia shows that Russian iron ore exports in the month of Apr’16 significantly dropped by 47% as compared to Apr’15.
In Apr’16, the country exported 1.3 MnT iron ore as compared to 2.6 MnT in Apr’15. The average price of export dropped by 18.4% to USD 43.3/MT in Apr’16,as compared to the average export price of USD 53.10/MT during Apr’15.
The agglomerated iron ore and concentrates exports in the month of Apr’16 was registered at 0.72 MnT, dropping sharply by 33% over the previous year. Finland was the key importer of agglomerated iron ore during the month with 0.39 MnT iron ore. The other key countries who imported Russian agglomerated iron ore were Turkey (0.16 MT), Germany (0.04 MnT), Slovakia (0.06 MnT) and UK (0.06 MnT).
The non-agglomerated iron ore exports were registered at 0.67 MnT in the month of Apr’16, drop by around 57.7% as compared to 1.57 MnT in Apr’15. China turned out to be the largest importer of Russian non-agglomerated iron ore in the month of Apr’16. Other key importers were Poland (0.13 MnT), Czech Republic (0.08 MnT) and Slovakia (0.08 MnT).
Finland- the largest importer of Russian iron ore
The largest importer of Russian iron ore turned out to be Finland in the month of Apr’16. Finland imported around 388,322 MnT iron ore from Russia, accounting nearly 28% of the total monthly Russian exports.
Russia iron ore exports down by 35%Y-o-Y in first four months of 2016
Russian iron ore exports during Jan-Apr’16 were registered at 5.4 MnT. Exports declined by around 35% as compared to the same consecutive period prior this year. During Jan-Apr’15, total 8.4 MnT iron ore had been exported from Russia.
The average price of exports dropped significantly by over 28% to USD 39.2/MT as compared with the average export price of USD 55.0/MT during the initial four-month period last year.
The largest importer of Russian iron ore turned out to be China. Total 1.5 MnT iron ore has been exported to China during Jan-Apr’16. China contributes total 30% of total Russian iron ore exports.
Other key importers during Jan-Apr’16 were Ukraine (0.7 MnT), Slovakia (0.7 MnT) and Turkey ( 0.5 MnT).
