Russia- world’s 3rd largest steel exporter registered marginal decline in CY17.However on yearly basis nation’s flat steel exports went down by 22% in Dec’17 against previous year.
According to Russian customs data, flat steel exports which includes (7208 – HR coils/Plates,7209 – CR coils, 7210, 7212 GP/GC and 7225 electrical sheets) has reported marginal decline of 1.4% in CY17 to 9.23 MnT which was assessed at 9.36 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
Also on yearly basis,nation’s flat steel exports decline significantly by 22% to 0.77 in Dec’17 in comparison with 0.99 MnT in Dec’16.
Surge in domestic flat steel prices in line with higher export offers resulted to slow buying from end users.This can be attributed for falling flat steel export volumes from Russia.
However on monthly basis,Russia flat steel exports inched up by 3% in Dec’17 against 0.75 MnT in Nov’17.Nation has exported flat steel majorly to Vietnam and United States in Dec’17.

Turkey was the major flat steel importer of Russia in CY17- Turkey remained major flat steel importer of Russia and has imported 2.85 MnT of flat steel which comprises of 31% of share in CY17.
Other major flat steel importers of flat steel are Belarus with 0.64 MnT ( 6.88 % of share),Iran at 0.57 MnT ( 6.14 % of share ) followed by Egypt 0.45 MnT (4.83 % of share) and Kazakhstan is 0.41 MnT (occupies 4.41% of share ) in CY17.
However on monthly premises Russia flat steel export volumes to Turkey witness decline by 22% to 0.14 MnT in Dec’17 as compared to 0.18 MnT in Nov’17.
Meanwhile Russian flat steel exports to Vietnam surged by whopping 38% to 0.11 MnT in Dec’17 against 0.08 MnT in previous month.Also flat steel exports to United States stood at 0.06 MnT against 0.03 MnT in Nov’17.
