Russia: Coal exports to China rise by 28% on month in Sept’21

Russia’s thermal coal exports to China were recorded at 3.7 mn t in Sept’21, up 28% m-o-m. During Jan-Sept’21, exports climbed to a whopping 40.6 mn t – an increase of 45% on the year. China accounts for 24% of total Russian coal exports thus far in 2021. Coal imports by China increased due to domestic supply shortage that had triggered an energy crisis.
