The Indian rupee continued to slide on Friday and opened at 54.60 to the US dollar, falling to a record low of 54.71 in early trade. Global worries weighed on financial markets that saw a sell off across Asia as trading began.
This is the third straight day that the rupee has fallen to a new low, starting Wednesday when it breached its earlier record low of 54.30 in mid-December.
The rupee was last trading at 54.67/68, breaching its previous all-time low of 54.60 hit on Thursday. It weakened as far as 54.71 in early trade. The rupee has shed 20 per cent value over the past one year.
