Rungta, India’s largest private and merchant Iron ore miner, recorded an increase of 28% in production in May 2015. Production increased after miner received extended EC of 16.5 MnT for its Jajang mines in Odisha. Rungta’s iron ore production from Odisha was recorded at 1.62 MnT in May against 1.26 MnT in April.
Serajuddin & Co. another large miner, recorded a production of 1.22 MnT in May 2015.
Odisha’s total Iron ore production was recorded at around 5.27 MnT for May 2015 against 5.17 MnT in April 2015 according to provisional data recorded by government of Odisha.
Odisha’s Iron ore production took a steep fall in FY15, after several mines were closed. Total production in the state was pegged at 47-48 MnT in FY15. However with new MMDR bill, most of the mines will become operational and total production from the state is expected at 74-75 MnT in FY16.

Since Apr’15, lump prices in Odisha have corrected by INR 400-750/MT and fines prices have fallen by INR 150-300/MT .
