RSP’s Special Plate Plant Despatchs 657 Tonnes in July

The Special Plate Plant (SPP) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) despatched 657 tonnes of heat treated special plates in July. This is the best monthly dispatch since inception. The previous best was in the month of March 2018 which was 511 tonnes.

The first four months of the current financial year, that is April-July’18 period, saw a growth of 40.22% over the Correspondent Period Last Year (CPLY) in terms of dispatch. Notably, Special Plate Plant of RSP is a pioneer in production of heat treated (Q & T) armour grade plates for Ordnance factories and Indian Navy.

The department had produced and dispatched approximately 88,000 tonnes of special plates to various defence organizations since its inception in 1969. With the recent addition of the New Heat treatment Facilities, SPP is presently is in the process of ramping up its production quenched and tempered plates for defence and other non-defence applications.

It is worth mentioning that the Unit has also started producing furnace normalized plates through its new heat treatment facilities. 573 tonnes of furnace normalized Boiler quality plates in the thickness of 60mm, 70 mm & 110mm have been supplied to BHEL during the period April-July 2018.
