Rolling mills prefer coal from North-East India over expensive imports

Rolling mills based in Central India have shown keen interest to buy high grade coal from Assam and Meghalaya on factors like

1) High carbon and low ash coal (FC: 45-50)

2) Cheaper than imports from South Africa

” There is good demand of high grade Assam coal from rolling mills. Prices are hovering around Rs 9000/mt for 45+ fixed carbon coal.

Also imports from South Africa and Indonesia are turning out to be expensive due to weak rupee.” said a coal trader based at Raipur (Chattisgarh)
