Rising Met Coke Import Offers Might Drift Domestic Prices Slightly Up

The Met coke market in India has continued to sustain low demand as the rainy season prevailed.

But, the rising prices of Coking coal seem to play a spoilsport for buyers in the country as it tends to raise the domestic prices.

Import offers have risen as Coking coal became costlier in international markets. The latest import offers of the 64 CSR Met coke were assessed higher at USD 179/MT CFR India; and that of the 62 CSR variant were also learnt to go up to USD 177/MT CFR India.

The FoB China values of the respective import offers were at: USD 167/MT and USD 165/MT.

The rising import offers have created the speculation of Met coke prices likely to go up marginally in India despite prevalence of low demand.

The prevailing domestic ex- works prices of the Blast Furnace grade are at: INR 15,000-15,500/MT (West Coast) and INR 13,500-14,000/MT (East Coast).
