Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) has announced that it would sale blast furnace (BF coke) though auction held on 27 Apr’20. The sale would be carried out via rail mode of auction involving two lots, each carrying 2,650 MT of BF coke.
The specification of the BF coke has been tabulated below:
| Size | Total Moisture | Volatile Matter | Ash | Fixed Carbon | CSR |
| 25-80 mm | 1% | 1% | 15% | 84-89% | 62 (min) |
The steel producer has been chiefly involved in sales of nut coke, a fraction generated in coke oven battery while converting coking coal into blast furnace grade of coke. Apparently, this is the first-time, it has envisaged sale of BF coke.
It is pertinent to note that BF Coke is a major raw material for making pig iron in blast furnace, whereas nut coke finds application mostly in Ferro alloy industries.
On account of reduced demand due to the corona-virus outbreak, the company has limited its daily steel production by shutting down one of its blast furnace, thus resulting in an anticipated drop in BF coke consumption.
Recent sales involving nut coke had received subdued response as well. In the auction concluded yesterday, out of the two rakes put forward for sale, RINL had witnessed booking of a single rake at a bid of INR 15,850/MT, which was almost same than the levels seen in the previous month’s auction.
