Railway Budget: Freight hiked on Coal, Iron & Steel Transport

The government has hiked freight rate by 6.3 percent for coal, 10 percent for urea, 0.8 percent for iron & steel and 2.7 percent for cement companies. However, freight rate is lowered by 1 percent for high speed diesel. The government is eyeing to rake in Rs 1.21 lakh crore in FY16 versus Rs 1.06 lakh crore in FY15.

Indian railways earned INR 768.11 cr from 4.82 MnT of food grains, INR 495.99 cr from 3.55 MnT of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), INR 582.31 cr from 3.46 MnT of Pig iron and Finished steel from steel plants and other points, INR 540.27 cr from 4.41 nMT of fertilisers, INR 190.10 cr from 1.75 MnT of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 446.05 cr from 4.07 MT by container service and Rs 655.50 cr from 6.75 MT of other goods.
