- Procurement stays strong despite weather disruptions
- Timely MSP payments keep market liquidity stable
Punjab’s paddy procurement drive has crossed 150 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) by mid-November 2025, maintaining strong momentum despite widespread disruptions caused by recent floods. Market arrivals remained steady through mid-November, reflecting resilient farmer participation and a robust procurement framework.
Market arrivals remain uninterrupted
Following the start of the kharif harvesting season, state mandis in Punjab have received 1,56,44,022 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy by 17 November, with nearly 99% of the arrivals lifted by government agencies. The high procurement ratio signals smooth mandi operations and efficient coordination between procurement centres, millers, and transport agencies even under challenging conditions.
More than 11 lakh farmers have already secured Minimum Support Price (MSP) benefits, underscoring the government’s role in supporting liquidity at the farmgate level at a time when several growing regions were hit by excessive rainfall and localised flooding.
Patiala leads in procurement
Patiala continues to anchor Punjab’s procurement performance, with 96,920 farmers receiving MSP payments so far — the highest among all districts. Its strong mandi infrastructure and higher arrival volumes have positioned it as the state’s top procurement hub this season.
Timely payments reinforce farmer confidence
The state government has released over INR 36,000 crore in MSP payments, ensuring rapid fund flow to growers. Timely disbursement has supported harvest-season cash requirements and maintained confidence in the state’s procurement system, a crucial factor in a year marked by weather-related uncertainties.
Outlook
The pace of procurement suggests Punjab will comfortably meet its seasonal targets, while stable payments and uninterrupted lifting are expected to support milling operations and downstream supply flows into the central pool over the coming weeks.
