Punjab: Depleting coal stocks at power plants raises outage fear

As per latest reports, thermal coal stocks at Punjab’s thermal power plants continue to remain low (less than 14 days’ stocks) raising fears of power outage. With the ongoing peak season for paddy cultivation, Punjab’s demand for power is quite high. Power plants in the state have been running on lesser plant load factor even as the government is making constant efforts to replenish coal. However, power plants are not getting required volumes despite being prioritised for supply by the government.
