POSCO plans to keep stainless steel production at full capacity in September as demand remains strong despite concerns of a potential slowdown on a weak global economy, an executive said on Monday.
“There are concerns of a demand slowdown due to the uncertain economic outlook but so far demand remains strong across all our major markets and prices are also holding firm,” said Oh Chang-kwan, head of stainless steel, POSCO.
At full capacity, POSCO produces 143,000 tonnes of stainless steel per month and its output rose by 36 % in the second quarter from a year ago on reviving demand from China and Southeast Asia.
POSCO kept prices of its major stainless steel produces for August after cutting them in July to narrow the price gap with imports.
