Amid elevated global coal prices and an urgency to secure energy supply for the upcoming winter, the Polish government may suspend rules banning low-quality coal. The country is heavily dependent on coal, with around 80% of its power requirement fulfilled by coal-fired plants. Air pollution caused due to coal-burning had been a cause of the highest ratio of premature death in Poland which is the highest in the European Union.
