Petcoke Imports in India Sink 33.66% in Nov’17 M-o-M

In Nov’17, Petcoke imports in India sunk by 33.66% over the imports in Oct’17, an analysis on the data compiled by CoalMint Research shows.  According to the data, 0.67 MnT of Petcoke was imported in India during the month under consideration. In the previous month, 1.01 MnT was imported, according to the import database maintained by CoalMint.

The shrinkage in the imports was due to the lower supply availability post the refineries in USA recovering from the devastation entailed by the Harvey hurricane occurred in USA in late Aug’17. Moreover, the import tendency among Indian users also slackened towards the later part of Nov’17 due to the Supreme Court imposing ban on usage of Petcoke in Delhi/NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

On year-on-year comparison, the Nov’17 imports were also lesser by 37.96% against the imports of 1.08 MnT in Nov’16.

A break-up of the countries of import shows that imports from all the countries were significantly down during the month.

Out of the various ports in the country, the Gangavaram port had handled the highest import traffic; followed by the Kandla and Krishnapatnam ports.

The major importers during the month were: Ultratech Cement, Shri Cement, Ambuja Cement, JSW Steel, Vedanta, Swiss Singapore and Tricon Energy.
