With hopes of revival in the Odisha mining sector, the Paradip port Trust is expecting to ship 4 to 5 million tonnes by the end of this financial year ending March 2014.Not only iron ore the port sees pellet as an emerging field of export shipment through it.
“There are signs of revival in the Odisha mining sector. We are already experiencing this with increased iron ore shipment through our port. So we can expect to end this fiscal with 4-5 million tonnes of iron ore export through the port” said Mr Sudhansu Sekhara Mishra, chairman,Paradip Port Trust.
Only 1.83 million tonnes of iron ore was exported through the port in the last financial year ending 31st March 2013.
But in the first quarter of the current financial year iron ore shipment traffic has registered a record growth of 176.96% against the same quarter during the last fiscal.
On the other hand the port sees iron ore pellets is an emerging sector of export cargo, though currently the amount is small compared to other cargo. However, the port is expecting to ship 1.5 million tonnes of pellets in the current financial year.
