Pakistan Coal Imports Down 21% M-o-M in Dec’17

According to the vessel line-up data compiled by CoalMint Research, Pakistan coal import has fallen 21% M-o-M to 868,393 MT in Dec’17. The country had imported 1,096,763 MT coal in Nov’17.

The decline could be attributed to the weaker coal imports from Indonesia, as aggressive buying from both China and India had limited Indonesian coal cargo availability. Pakistan’s coal import did crossed the 10 MnT mark in CY17, supported by the commissioning of two new Power Plants under the CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor). The country’s coal imports totaled 10,738,658 MT during Jan’17-Dec’17.

Indonesia supplied 1,610,700 MT coal to Pakistan during the year. The remaining coal shipments were procured from Russia, Mozambique and USA.
