Pakistan: China-backed power company to discontinue Afghan coal import post price hike

Chinese backed-Pakistan power utility, Huaneng Shandong Ruyi Energy Pvt Ltd, may discontinue imports of Afghan coal after its prices were doubled. The company has asked Pakistan’s National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to approve an agreed pricing mechanism within a week to resolve the issue. Pakistan is dealing with high fuel costs and significant currency depreciation, resulting in power outages and production cuts for cement plants.
