Pakistan: Bulk Ferrous Scrap Imports Rise Five Fold in July

As per the customs data maintained with SteelMint, bulk ferrous scrap imports in the Pakistan have increased sharply in Jul’17. Country’s rising steel production has led to increased scrap imports. According to data released by World Steel Association, Pakistan’s crude steel output jumped 33% Y-o-Y to 2.32 MnT in H1 CY17.

The nation has imported 125,030 MT ferrous scrap in Jul’17 against 27,440 MT ferrous scrap in Jun’17.

According to some participants, several buyers in the Pakistan had booked around 6 -7 bulk ferrous scrap import vessels in the May-June months for which shipments were expected to arrive in end of June and July.

USA remained major source for Pakistan scrap imports in Jul’17

United States remained topmost exporter of ferrous scrap to Pakistan and exported 82,900 MT comprising 66.30% share of total imports in Jul’17.

Other major countries remained UK, which has exported 24,100 MT scrap to Pakistan followed by Australia.
