The Orissa Government has asked all companies, particularly those in the steel sector, to rework their land requirements for setting up new plants, or undertaking expansion of their existing plants in the State.
The move has been taken in order to rationalize the use of land and water, according to Mr. C. J. Venugopal, Chairman and Managing Director, Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Orissa Ltd.
“All steel companies wanting to set up a plant in the State will have to rework their land requirements for optimum utilization of resources. Both upcoming projects and existing ones where the work is going on will have to submit their land use plans afresh,” said Mr Venugopal
Steel companies including ArcelorMittal, Posco and Tata Steel will have to rework on their land use plans, he pointed out.
“The State Government would give about six months time to companies to submit their land use plans. Once the companies submit their proposal it will be verified by the expert body and in case the expert body feels that the land requirement is lower than that asked for then we can also take back a portion of the land, this has been done in a few cases,” he added.
