Bhubaneswar: With as many as 83 minning leases waiting for renewal and the mineral production is shrinking, the Odisha government is considering to bring some relaxation in its new resolution on mining renewal. The state steel and mines department will issue notices to these 83 miners for renewal within a month. Depending upon the merit the department will decide on renewal of
eligible miners and bring back the ineligible mining leases to the fold of OMC and at the same time the state controlled miners would be asked to boost its output.
The state Chief secretary, Steel and mines secretary and Director of mines discussed on the issue of second and subsequent renewal of mining leases on Wednesday. Taking note of the problems of state steel units the government is considering asking OMC to increase its production. Due to non-availability of raw-materials like iron ore and manganese the steel units in the state are
going through a crisis period. Two Weeks back; the representatives of All Odisha Steel federation had met the steel and mines secretary Rajesh Verma and draw his attention on the issue.
