Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has decided to conduct e-auction of Chrome Ore on 31st of this month. The government owned company had to postpone the auction scheduled to be held on the 15th of this month owing to worker's unrest. This time the company plans to put on sale only 60 thousand tonnes of Chrome ore (including concentrate) against nearly 1 lakh tonnes planned earlier.
The last e-auction was held on 11th of September for sale of 61000 tonnes of Chrome ore.
Last Friday, the District administration had declared the strike as illegal and deployed forces after the talks between the Union and the OMC management failed. After which OMC has managed to resume ore production and transportation of Chrome Ore. The company is currently running the d-query and f-query mines of South Kaliapani and the Sukrangi mines. It has also managed to operationalize the Chrome ore Beneficiation (COB) plant located at the area.
Normality returning to OMC South Kaliapani Mines
It seems there has been a division in the worker's union of OMC South Kaliapani mines after strong stance of the company management. According to reports as many as 448 workers out of total 658 agitating workers have returned to work in the mine on Monday. Also out of the rest 210 workers some are willing to join work.
It is believed that the worker's have decided to join the work after the 'No work No pay' policy adopted by the OMC management. On the other hand, it is believed more than 2 months of closure at the mines have weakened the financial status of the workers.
Last Friday the Jajpur District administration had declared the worker's strike as illegal and enforced 144 barring any agitation at the mining area.
