In first four months of FY17, iron ore production from Odisha stood at 30.1 MnT up by 48% Y-o-Y.
Odisha’s iron ore production which was recorded at 7.69 MnT in Jun’16 declined further to 5.29 MnT in Jul’16, during monsoon thereby registering a downfall of 31% M-o-M.
Amongst the merchant miners, Rungta Mines was the largest producer at 0.84 MnT (down by 43% M-o-M) followed by Serajuddin Mines at 0.71 MnT (down by 22% M-o-M) and KJS Ahluwalia (down by 9% M-o-M) in Jul’16.
Talking about captive miners, Tata Steel’s iron ore production increased marginally by 4% M-o-M to 0.93 MnT in Jul’16. Iron ore production of SAIL was recorded at 0.45 MnT in Jul’16 (down by 22% M-o-M).
State-owned miner – OMC has noticed decline of 84% M-o-M in Jul’16 and its production was recorded at 0.05 MnT.

Odisha government expects state’s iron ore production to ramp up to 100 MnT in FY17. Odisha’s iron ore production has witnessed increase of 48% Y-o-Y during first four months of this fiscal (i.e. Apr’16-Jul’16) . State’s iron ore production which stood at 20.3 MnT (Apr’15-Jul’15) moved up to 30.1 MnT in the same period this fiscal.
