Subdued demand & monsoons hampered Odisha’s iron ore production.
Odisha, India’s largest iron ore producing state has witnessed a fall of 22% in iron ore production during June’15 and stood at 4.21 MnT*. Production was around 5.41 MnT in May’15. The reasons behind drop in production are arrival of monsoons & subdued demand for iron ore.
Iron Ore Production in Odisha at 14.79 MnT in Q1 FY16
Odisha’s quarterly iron ore production has moved up to 14.79 MnT* in Q1 FY16 against 14.23 MnT in Q1 FY15.
Odisha’s iron ore production was severely hit after the Apex Court ordered mining suspension to the mines running under 2nd deemed renewal on 16 May’14. In May’15, the state government allowed reopening of mines following which, state’s iron ore production witnessed an increase.

Odisha Iron Ore Production may not Touch 70 MnT mark in FY16
Odisha’s iron ore production might not touch 70 MnT mark and is expected to be around 65 MnT in this fiscal. Mines are not operating at full capacity owing to falling demand as a result of which state’s iron ore production is anticipated to be around 65 MnT. Iron ore production in Odisha was recorded at 47 MnT in FY15.
