Odisha ministerial panel to study SC ruling on Karnataka mining
Asks for another 2 month time to submit report
The ministerial panel set up by the Odisha government intended for formulating a policy for supply to the state based industries has asked for more time to submit its report. The panel has asked for an extension of 2 months to study the Supreme Court’s order on illegal mining in Karnataka and include any suitable rules/conditions (if any) fitted in the Odisha context in its report.
“We want to study the Apex courts judgement on Karnataka Mines, so as there will not be any legal contradictions in future. If there is any suitable ruling fitted in the Odisha context we would include it in our report. We’ll also take the view of the law department on the issueâ€Â, said state steel and mines minister Rajanikant Singh.
As per reports the panel has already finalised its draft report which was discussed in its last meeting held on 24th of this month. However, the members had expressed their desire to study the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Karnataka mining issue before finalising the draft.
“We had deliberations with all the stake holders like miners, user industries and Industry Associations on the raw material supply issue and we are committed to formulate a suitable and neutral policy which would suit all these stakeholdersâ€Â, head of the panel and state finance minister Prasanna Acharya said.
The committee which was set up the state government under the chairmanship of state finance minister Prasanna Acharya and Steel & Mines minister Rajanikant Singh and industry minister Niranjan Pujari as members was to submit the report by end of this month, a delay of 3 months of its original deadline of 31st January.
