Odisha to Put Up Three Iron Ore Blocks For Auction in Dec’16

SteelMint had reported that Coordination-cum Empowered Committee (CCEC) is to conduct a meeting on Mineral Development and Regulation. CCEC conducted the meeting under the chairmanship of Secretary (Mines) on 05 Aug’16 in New Delhi.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Secretary (Mines) Mr. Balwinder Kumar and was attended by officials from Ministry of Mines of different states.

Odisha govt. had auctioned 1 iron ore block in the 1st phase. Following this, state plans to auction 5 blocks of limestone and manganese via 2nd phase in Sept’16. Additionally 3 iron ore blocks and 1 bauxite block will be put up for auction in Dec’16-Jan’17.

Karnataka’s iron ore block auction for 14 “C” category mines which was getting delayed due to high amount of stamp duty made applicable on lease holders. Subsequently, the Karnataka Stamp Act has been amended and the blocks have now been put under auction which is expected to be held in Sept-Oct’16.

DMG Maharastra has also scheduled auction of “Degve Banda” iron ore block which is expected to take place in Aug-Sept’16.

Other major points discussed during the meeting:

  1. The states were asked to take up exploration work in multiple blocks as per their capability. And they are requested to expedite the process of auction and address the issues faced in Phase -1 
  2. States were asked to start implementing the schemes under DMF 
  3. States were requested to adopt Star Rating Template for Minor Minerals as well 
  4. States were requested to give suggestions on draft MCDR 2016.
