Odisha to examine Karnataka Industrial policy on raw material supply

The ministerial
panel on raw material supply will examine the policies of other mineral bearing
states before finalising its report on raw material supply to industries. Especially
the panel has decided examine the Industrial policy of the Karnataka
government. It will also have a discussion with the officials of National
Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) before submitting its report to the
government in January.

The 3 member ministerial
panel headed by the Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya has been set up by the
state government to give recommendations to formulate a suitable policy for
supply of raw material to the industries in the state. On Tuesday the panel had
a discussion with several Steel and Mines Associations and recorded their views
on the matter. The Associations includes All Odisha Steel Federation, KalingaNagar
Industries Association (KNIA), Keonjhar industries Federation.

During the
meeting the president of the AOSF and KNIA Mr. P.L.Kandoi welcomed the government’s
decision to reserve 50% of the iron ore for the state based industries and
requested the government to take necessary steps to ramp up production of the
mines. On the other hand the Keonjhar industries Federation president Mr.  Suresh Pattnaik has demanded that, at least
25% of the minerals should be reserved for the local crusher units.
