Odisha: Shah Commission Report on illegal mining by month end

Bhubaneswar: The justice M.B.Shah Commission inquiring into the mining scam in
the state of Odisha may present its report to the central government by the end
of this month, according to Mr. U.V.Singh, a senior member of the commission,
who is also the principal conservator of forests (PCCF) Karnataka.

However, both the Odisha government and miners have requested
the commission to provide them one last chance to present their sides.

Accordingly, as per the permission of commission, the Eastern Zone Miner’s
Association (EZMA) had presented its side through senior Supreme Court Advocate – Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Odisha High Court Lawyer – Ashok Parida at the
commission’s office at Ahmedabad.

On the other hand the state
government has also applied for a chance to present its side through Advocate
General Ashok Mohanty and senior SC lawyers U.U.Lalit, Shibashish Misha and
Subhransu Padhi.

According to experts, both the state government and miners are
in a panic mood due to the fear that report may go against them.

The previous
two reports on illegal mining in Goa and Karnataka had gone against the miners
and based on the reports the Supreme Court had put blanket ban on mining in the
two states.
