India’s largest iron ore producing state – Odisha has registered a production of 8.75 MnT in Apr’16. Comparing on monthly premises, state’s iron ore production has remained stable. In Mar’16 iron ore production in the state was observed at 8.85 MnT.
However analyzing on annual basis (i.e. against Apr’15) , iron ore production in Odisha has moved up considerably by about 70% in Apr’16. With less number of operational mines post temporary suspension of mining activities, Odisha’s iron ore production was seen at 5.17 MnT in Apr’15 which has now increased to 8.75 MnT in Apr’16.
Among merchant miners, Rungta Mines remained the largest producer at 2.09 MnT followed by Serajuddin Mines at 0.90 MnT and AMTC mines at 0.79 MnT. State owned miner-Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) produced 0.62 MnT ore in Apr’16.
Talking about captive miners-Tata Steel produced 0.92 MnT iron ore from its mines in Odisha. SAIL’s iron ore production from Odisha stood at 0.59 MnT last month.

Iron ore production in Odisha moved up by sharply by 62% Y-o-Y from 47 MnT in FY15 to 75.7 MnT in FY16. The state government expects Odisha’s iron ore production to touch 100 MnT in FY17.
