Odisha Raises Iron Ore Output Cap to 75 MnT

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has increased the iron ore output cap to 75 MnT for the year FY 16 from 57 MnT in the previous year. Of this 44.35 MnT from the Joda mining circle and 30.65 MnT from the Koida maning circle.

“The decision was taken at the state level task force meeting chaired by Odisha Chief Secretary and other senior officials yesterday” a senior official in the Odisha Directorate of mines said.

The detailed notification is expected to come out with the next few days.

“The Nagpur based National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) has allowed us to permit up to 100 MnT of mineral movement in the state. But, keeping in view the inward movements of imported coal we have decided to limit it at 75 MnT ” said the official.

However, given the falling iron ore dispatch owing to low demand in the market, experts believe, actual production and dispatch level may not touch the highest limit.
