Bhubaneswar: The
inter-ministerial panel constituted by the Odisha Government to formulate a
suitable raw material linkage policy may submit its report before 15th
of July. The extended tenure of the panel has already been expired on 30th
of June, but the panel has asked another 15 day extension for submitting its
report.
“We have already
finalized the report and it is in the printing state. We have asked for another 15 days time from
the government, but I am hopeful that the report will be submitted well before
15th of this month” said Rajnikant Singh, Steel and Mines Minister,
Government of Odisha, who is also a member of the panel.
The Odisha government had formed the 3 member panel headed by the finance minister Prasanna
Acharya, in October last year with an aim to find out measures for making iron
ore, manganese, bauxite and chrome ore available to the mineral based
industries, which do not have captive mines. The panel, which also includes the
industry minister Niranjan Pujari, was initially scheduled to submit its report
by January 30, 2013, but later the tenure was extended till April 30 and then again
till June 30.
The submission of the report of the panel is crucial as the
stand alone steel plants in the state are facing raw material scarcity problem.
Similarly, in the Alumunium sector,Vedanta Aluminium had to shut down its plant
at Lanjigarh due to non availability of Bauxite.
