Bhubaneswar: The government of Odisha has indicated that it is considering to review the tariff of mineral transportation through truck. State transport minister Mr. Ramesh Majhi has said that the proposal is under consideration and his department may take a decision soon.
Statement of the minister has come in a time when the truckers associations in mineral rich Keonjhar district are on strike for the last few days demanding roll back of government’s orders for capping transportation tariff of mineral transportation through road.
The Joda Mining Area Truckers Association has called the strike. Terming the new rates are not feasible and favoring only the miners and the user industry, the association has urged the state government to reconsider the decision.
It may be noted that, with a view to streamline the mineral evacuation process and bring down the high cost of transportation, the Odisha government last year has decided to enforce ceiling price of mineral transport through road. However, the Joda Area Truck Owners Association and Joda mining Area Truck Owners Association had moved the Odisha High Court against the decision.
