Odisha Iron Ore Production Likely to Cross 72 MnT in FY16

In the time span from Apr’15-Feb’16, Odisha iron ore production has been recorded at 66.9 MnT. And it seems that production figures in India’s largest iron ore producing state may cross 72 MnT mark in this fiscal.

The month of Feb’16 noticed sharp increase of around 16% M-o-M in Odisha’s iron ore production. Production figure was recorded at 7.26 MnT in Jan’16 which has surged in the following month and was recorded at 8.42 MnT.

Among merchant miners in Odisha, Rungta Mines remained the largest producer with iron ore production of 1.67 MnT in Feb’16. Other major producers were AMTC (1.09 MnT), Serajuddin Mines (0.73 MnT) and KJS Ahluwalia (0.50 MnT). State based miner-OMC produced 0.64 MnT iron ore in Feb’16.

Odisha’s iron ore production which plunged to 47 MnT in last fiscal over temporary suspension of mining operations of few mines in state has witnessed significant improvement in this fiscal. With resumption of mining operations at banned mines in state and increased pressure from state govt. to match up production with the granted EC limits, states’ iron ore production may cross 72 MnT mark in this fiscal.

By Feb’16, Odisha iron ore production has amounted to 66.9 MnT in this fiscal. Out of which production of major miners were as follows-Rungta Mines (15.6 MnT), Serajuddin Mines (9.2 MnT), Indrani Patnaik (3.8 MnT) and OMC (3.5 MnT). Iron ore production of major captive miners stood as Tata Steel (8.4 MnT) and SAIL (5.98 MnT).
